After his return from the military he worked for Herb Steinbach as a carpenter for about 6 years. He then owned and operated Bob Tacke Carpentry for 30+ years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and ice fishing. He enjoyed being around his family and friends.

John P. Stock


 

John P. Stock, 86 of Withee, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield with his four children and loved ones by his side. Visitation will be held at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen on Thursday, October 31, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Saint Katherine’s Episcopal Church in Owen. Reverend Tony Ring will officiate. Burial will be in the Withee Riverside Cemetery, Saturday, November 2,2013 at 11:00 AM with full military rites conducted by the Lublin American Legion Post 547.


John was born on August 8, 1927 to Julius and Rose (Stasek) in Woodstock, Illinois. He attended Woodstock Schools. After graduating from high school, John entered the US Navy, was a Seaman Second Class during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Owen where he met and married Nancy Lou Crowley on January 24, 1948 at the Neillsville Courthouse. John worked local jobs including production at Master Package and at Griebenow Company where he was introduced to plumbing. In 1950 he began his apprenticeship at Griebenow Company in Owen completing his plumbing apprenticeship in 1955.


As a journeyman plumber in the Owen Withee area John continued to work for Griebenow Company before moving toWorth, IL to work as a plumber for two years then came back to Withee and as a Master Plumber started the NL Stock Plumbing Heating and Electrical Company in 1958. He sold the business in 1968. John then joined the Local Union 385 in Eau Claire and worked as a plumbing Superintendant for several mechanical contractors in the greater Eau Claire area until his retirement in 1992.


When John was not working, he enjoyed family vacations, going to auctions, gardening, and planting trees on his property at Frenchtown School (renamed Ratherthan). John also enjoyed charter fishing trips to the Great Lakes, deer hunting, and going to the ice fishing shack with his sons and grand children. John loved his work with a passion and he instilled in his family his strong work ethic.
John was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters for 55 years, Lublin American Legion Post #547 and the Arbor Foundation.


John is lovingly survived by his brother; Herb (Dolo) Stock of Owen and sister Rose Pralguske of Fort Mohave, AZ, and his children; Kathy (Jeff) Jones of Sherwood, OR, Jeff (Linda) Stock of Elk Mound, Tim (Diane) Stock of Withee, and Andrea (Scott) Richards of Marshfield. Grandchildren; Nathan (Nicole) Jones, Amy (Jason) Goodding and Ryan (Jeni Halter) Jones, Heidi (Randy Franz) Stock, Craig (Linda) Stock, Josh Frenette, Amy (Ross) Kaz, Autumn (James) Collar, Tim (Angela) Stock Jr., 19 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Nancy Lou Stock on September 3, 1998, and 2 brothers; Bert and Bob.


John’s family would like to thank the staff of Oakbrook Health and Rehab Center in Thorp and the House of the Dove in Marshfield for the wonderful care he received.

Miree "Kim" Dawson


 

Miree “Kim” Dawson, age 72, of Abbotsford, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield, with her loving family by her side. Visitation will be on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford from 4:00 till 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church in Colby on Saturday. Burial will follow the service at Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Kim was born July 6, 1941 in Korea. She worked and retired from Tombstone Pizza in Medford.

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and always had good luck gambling. Kim also enjoyed fishing, crocheting, making and giving away dish towels, flowers, bird watching and cooking Korean food for her family. She was known to have a strong willed personality.

Kim is lovingly survived by her children; Glen (Virginia) Dawson of Janesville, James (Caryn) Dawson of Milwaukee and Marilyn (Dan Wolfgram) Dawson of Marshfield, eight grandchildren; Benjamin Bedroske of Milwaukee, Emily (Ian) Zimmermann of Milwaukee, Nicholas Bedroske of Eau Claire, Jimmy, Alexa, Sierra, Chaz, and Asher all of Milwaukee. She is further survived by special friends, Paul Dins and Rita Dins Ashenbrenner.

She is preceded in death by a special friend, Allen Dins.

He also enjoyed the Packers, CB and Ham Radio, and the fall colors. Frank was a creative cook and a dehydrating connoisseur. He was quite the story teller and jokester.

Lavonne M. Apfelbeck


 

Lavonne M. Apfelbeck, age 83, of Colby, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. Burial will be held in Abbotsford Public Cemetery in Abbotsford. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 AM until time of services Saturday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is serving the family.
  Lavonne was born on May 25, 1930 in Chippewa Falls, the daughter of Carl and Mary Ann (Gettler) Prueher. She graduated from Chippewa Falls McDonell High School in 1948. Lavonne was united in marriage to Hubert Apfelbeck on January 20, 1949 in Chippewa Falls.   
  She worked at Wick Building Systems in Spencer for seven years. Lavonne was also a seamstress for Springcrest Drapery in Abbotsford. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, crafting, playing bingo, going to the casino, camping and traveling. Lavonne especially enjoyed winters in Florida.
  Lavonne is survived by her husband of 64 years, Hubert “Hub” of Colby; five children: Michael (Pam) Apfelbeck of Rhinelander, Ronald (Diann) Apfelbeck of Chelsea, Sherri Leu (special friend, Ronald Poehnelt), James Apfelbeck (special friend, Karen Sebold) and Jeannie (Phil) Purdy all of Abbotsford; former son-in-law, Allen Leu of Abbotsford. She is further survived by eight grandchildren: Kim Leu , Kristy (Allan) Bender, Kerry (Joe) Clements, Dana (Chris) Klauk, Heather Apfelbeck (special friend, Dave Brahm), Jason (Lacy) Apfelbeck, Mike (Carrie) Apfelbeck and Michelle (Jason) Kayhart; 12 great-grandchildren: Cody, Nick, Adeline, Georgia, Noah, Anya, Erika, Jaden, Catera, Coy, Jude and Grace; her twin-sister, Lorraine (Wayne) Bergevin of Chippewa Falls; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mike was a Supervisor at Great Northern Cabinetry in Rib Lake for 10 years and then worked as a window assembler at Weathershield in Medford until his retirement in 2008. Mike was a volunteer fighter for the Rib Lake Fire Department for numerous years and also served on the Rib Lake Village Board for two terms. He enjoyed watching TV.

She was an excellent seamstress and sold embroidery work. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, cooking, baking, gardening & playing piano.

Zenita M. Kowalczyk


 

Zenita M. Kowalczyk, age 96, of Gilman, passed away on
Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Oakwood Villa, Altoona.

  Zenita was born August 22, 1917 in Greeley, Iowa, the daughter
of the late Frank & Hazel (McCartney) Taylor. At a young age
she moved with her family to the Gilman area where she grew up
and attended area schools. On August 22, 1939 she was united
in marriage to Frank Kowalczyk at St.’s Peter & Paul Catholic
Church in Gilman. For two years they lived in Gilman, then
moved to Chicago for employment, later moving back to Gilman
to take over the family farm until 1971 when they moved into the
village of Gilman. Zenita was a devout Catholic with a great love
for her God and her family. She was known for always
remembering birthday’s, and anniversaries. Polka music and
dancing also gave her great joy.
   She is survived by her daughters, Rosalie Fischer of Eau
Claire; Barbara Dempsey of Maplewood, MN; Kathy (John) Reyes
of Frisco, TX; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 17 great-
great-grandchildren, sister, Jeanette Nelson of Chetek, and son-
in-law, Steve Reynolds of Eau Claire. She was preceded in death
by her parents, husband Frank in 1997, daughter, Carol
Reynolds in 2004, and siblings, Warren and Burdette Taylor,
Ellen Ogorzalek, Cora Gozy & Bernard in infancy.
   Services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 11 a.m.
at St.’s Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Gilman, with Fr. Madanu
Sleeva Raju officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.

Gregory then took over the family business of Hanke Oil Company in Rib Lake for 24 years. He loved being outdoors and going to the cabin. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and being with his family and friends.

MEMBER OF: Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Rib Lake. Served as past president of the Rib Lake Industrial Development Committee for a number of years.

Darwin Hartmann Sr


Darwin Hartmann Sr, 64, Prentice, died in the Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau on Thursday, October 3, 2013. 

 

  He was born in Phillips on March 4, 1949, the son of Ralph and Lela (Stade) Hartmann.  He was a 1967 graduate of the Prentice High School.  He was married to Beverly Marheine in Prentice on October 10, 1987.  In his working career, he was employed as a welder by the Surge Company, drove over the road, logging and gravel trucks and, in latter years, was employed as a crane operator by Biewer Sawmill.  He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Prentice.  In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching sports, especially the Packers and Brewers.

 

  Darwin is survived by his wife, Beverly; by four children, Dawn (Todd) Pomrening, Hughes, Alaska, Donna (Kelley) Akey, Athens, Darwin Bruce (Tennille) Hartmann Jr, Athens and Josie Bacholl, Prentice; by four step children, Kris (Ron) Gerstberger, Rib Lake, Kari (Corky) Rodman, Rib Lake, Kathi (Brian) Nutting, Medford, and Kelli Bacholl Rib Lake; by 19 grandchildren; by three brothers, Dennis (Walda) Hartmann, Prentice, Duke (Ann) Hartmann, Prentice, and Dale Hartmann, Prentice; and by two sisters, Darlene Teele, Prentice and Dorie Anklam, Prentice.  One infant sister, Donna, precedes him in death. 

 

   Memorial services will be held on Sunday, October 6 at 3:00 P.M. at the First Lutheran Church in Prentice with Pastor Richard Hall officiating.  Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips.  Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until time of services at 3:00 P.M.

  The Heindl Funeral Home in Prentice is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

She enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening, flowers, canning, crafts and feeding the birds.
